CM1065 KEEP IT REAL: COACH MIKE TALKS ABOUT FREEDOM

02/24/21

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:00:26] Hey, thanks for listening to always evolving. My name is Mike Bear also known as coach Mike and man. I started this podcast about a year ago. My first podcast guest was Jessica Simpson, then I had dr. Phil those were all in person. And at the time it was called the coach Mike podcast and then covid hit and I went through.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:00:53] A different process because nothing was in person anymore. It was all done over Zoom or some platform and I spoke to different people some were friends some were people. I was trying to get to know for the first time some people that I was completely inspired by some people that was kind of inspired by and some people that I was just trying to be as inspired as

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:01:23] I could be get through the conversation because you it's a lot different when you're talking to someone not in person. When you're in person. You can kind of read their body language and I'm sure you all have experienced that it's this feeling of wanting to connect with others, but we're all forced to connect in different ways and everyone's a bit different some people take covid very seriously.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:01:53] Some people don't take it. Seriously. Some people take the vaccine. Some people won't take the vaccine. I'm fortunate enough that I received the vaccine and that is because I founded and owned cast centers which is a treatment center in Los Angeles. So I took the moderna vaccine because we're essential workers and in case you're curious the first vaccine didn't really feel it when I took the second one of the moderna the next day I

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:02:23] It felt like I'd really bad jet lag and I woke up grumpy. But then again, I always wake up grumpy. I'm kind of in a grumpy mood and the mornings. I wish I was different. I seem to turn on around 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. But my point of telling you all this is I change the podcast to become always evolving because so much of life in this last year for all of us and I'm guessing for you has forced this idea.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:02:54] I've evolving has forced this idea that it's either grower go because you have to accept the things you cannot change and the wisdom to know the difference with the things you can change and then to take action and to make those changes happen now for me the bummer of this is I don't know who I'm talking to right now. I don't know who I'm speaking with and listening to this podcast some of you maybe this is your first time.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:03:23] Time listening to me or maybe you been along with me on this journey, and I'm going to ask you to do something because it would be extremely helpful to me is if you can send me an e-mail directly and if you do then I can send you a form and you can let me know which episodes you really Doug what you did in because part of it is I want to be able to interact with you, you know, whether you tag me on Instagram, but I want to send you a survey. So email.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:03:53] Tactic coach Mike Bear.com contact a coach Mike bear.com or you can text me and that's three 1098 for 1858 three 1098 for 1858. This isn't some solicitation or me trying to upsell you on anything by the way. I'm just saying this because I want to bring value to you. I don't want to just hear myself talk and I also don't want to just bring on Talking Heads, you know, I want to bring on people that are entertaining I want to.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:04:23] Have fun and the reality is doing this podcast for the last year. I can tell you if you're if you're looking to start up a podcast don't do it because you think you're going to be rich because there is very little money in podcasts. Unless you're Joe Rogan and everyone knows he you know sold the Spotify and I don't know it's like a hundred billion dollars. But I mean, those are one in a billion the reason you do the podcast are for me why I do a podcast is to

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:04:53] Connect with others to learn to grow and evolve. So hopefully I'll hear from you so I can send you the survey and more recently, you know, I've kind of bounced around and I'm sure you've done this at different points in your career or in this last year where you're trying to get a holding because you're pivoting. You're like, what do I need to do next? What do I need to change? Do I start up that company? Do I still pursue this part of my career?

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:05:22] And I'm right with you in terms of my own career. You know, I've had a lot of speaking gigs lined up. I planned on doing this podcast and person with a giant wheel called the universe two sides wheel which would ask questions. I was going to make it fun. I was thinking about having a co-host and now I decided to drop this episode and it's the first episode I've dropped where I'm just talking to myself because quite

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:05:52] Frankly, I don't want to talk to anyone else right now. I just want to talk to you whoever you are, and I still don't know who you are.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:06:01] But hopefully I'll find out soon. I can tell you that this podcast is something that I've had to change the purpose of it, you know initially. I was coming out with a podcast because I thought I was just a great way to expand my brand and connect with others and then I just realized that this podcast is a way for me to hopefully have

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:06:31] Also fun and I have to remind myself that you know before I would drop this on every Tuesday every Tuesday and episode will come out because it was explained to me initially that all podcasting to come out on Tuesdays or they have to be 45 minutes long. And for those of you who have been listening to this podcast since day one, you've seen it go through so many evolutions and I've just decided fuck it. I want to do what I want to do when I want to do.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:07:01] Do it. I want to drop an episode when I want to drop it. I want to talk to whoever I want to talk to who's willing to talk to me about whatever topic and most importantly and the purpose of it is also to connect with you and hopefully provide you with some value with some insight that maybe you could believe in yourself a little more or you could change your life or you could change that aspect of your life, or maybe you could just get a break from life.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:07:31] Because you're sick and tired of being sick and tired and I can tell you as a coach and doing this for over 18 years as a coach just because you're a coach. It doesn't mean that you don't struggle or that you don't have relationships that don't end perfectly or that you don't end up saying yourself God. I could have handled that situation differently. I still deal with that and what I've realized I spoke to a friend today.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:07:59] A friend who's very upbeat and happy always happy always in good spirits, exceedingly lovely talented kind one of those friends that I would bring around any group of friends and any of my friends or relationships or failing to be like, oh my God, we love him and I talked to him today and he was getting a little emotional and I hadn't checked in with him for a while.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:08:29] And basically what he told me is for the past two months. He's thought about killing himself.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:08:35] And he's stressed out over money. He has debt. He is feeling a lack of purpose. He's feeling empty. He's waking up in the middle of the night with talaq panic attacks. He's not sleeping through the night and he just went to visit his mom and flew to visit his mom because he felt like he needed to be around home and I said to him today I said, well, who are you talking to?

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:09:05] About this. He said I haven't told anyone by you. See you haven't told anyone but me he's like no, I'm telling you. I'm telling you and you know so often.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:09:19] I would I wouldn't have thought this about him.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:09:23] And this is what I do for a living. I wouldn't have thought that he was struggling that much. I would have thought he's just going through a rough period in his life, but he told me that for the past two months. He's thought about killing himself.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:09:37] So I asked him what was very stressful and he said that he was in a lot of debt. I told him I'd pay off his debt.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:09:45] And he's like no. No, you don't need to do that. And I'm like, no. I know I don't need to do that, but we're friends and I love you. And your well-being is the most important thing and he kept saying to me he felt like it would have been a burden to tell me.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:10:04] And I feel like that's how a lot of people think is. We think we're a burden.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:10:12] We think people are sick of hearing us complain or we don't want to put our issues on someone else or we feel some sense of Shame.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:10:20] Because we think we're going to be judged. We think we're not going to be loved or we think we're going to be embarrassed and it's really easy to end up in a slippery slope where a certain area of your life starts to decline.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:10:41] And before you know it you may end up in a dark spot in your life. And when you're in a dark spot, you think you're the only one who's experiencing it you don't think or realize there's millions of people that experience it there's millions of people that have experienced a deep sense of loneliness in the last year.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:11:05] I have

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:11:07] At different times. I felt it now. I have to kind of claw my way out and be like I feel this type of way and I you know, we'll call a therapist or people in my life or but a lot of people don't you know, I'm fortunate. I work in mental health and pretty open about my story, but maybe you haven't been open. I came down to record this podcast episode because I just had a phone call.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:11:37] With my producer Laverne and some of the people involved in my project.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:11:42] And I said, you know, I just want to have freedom with this podcast with always evolving. I want to have total freedom. I want to talk about whatever I want to talk about.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:11:54] And I also want to that's my dog in the background by the way. She's right lately. She has this licking problem where I've switched her on four different types of dog food. She's been on and by the way, she's so pampered. Her name's Vida Maria. She's been on like venison lamb beef now. She's on a dry food because she keeps liking it's like allergies with a dog tongue. I don't know if any of you have ever had a dog whose tongue, but there's nothing worse than watching it. I mean, I can't imagine watching this with

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:12:23] Here but also watching your pet who seems to be struggling with something. It's just like God, what am I doing wrong? But I don't know. Maybe I said something that you need to hear maybe one of you will let me know what to do with my dog Vita Maria, but you know, the reality is if you're not feeling

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:12:43] Free

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:12:45] In your life right now. The question is what would cause it?

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:12:53] To feel more free. What is the thing that were story that you're telling yourself that's getting in the way of you doing more better different or piece. Whatever it is for a lot of people. It's relationships or money.

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:13:15] But we all deserve and especially in 2021 to be able to create our own versions of freedom in our own lives. You know, if you go on the internet, you're not going to hear a lot about Freedom. You're going to hear a lot about conflict and whenever I'm working with someone I always say how free do you feel and often people will say well, I don't feel

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:13:44] Feel very free and I'll say to them. Well, what would it look like for you to have more freedom and that may be a question you want to ask yourself because usually it's just one decision away from making a change that would greater impact and give you the sense of worthiness of love. So it's just me dropping a whole new type of episode. It's

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:14:14] To me a lot too. Hey, Mike. Why don't you just talk while you just talked about something and to be honest, it's because I don't package talks. I don't like saying the same thing more than once. I don't want in that was me saying I don't I don't I don't but what I can tell you is what I want is freedom. I want freedom in all Affairs in my life and so my way of

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:14:44] Coming in and dropping this episode right now and doing a little differently so that I could be a little more free in my life. So more podcasts to come make sure you click to subscribe because I'm going to drop them on random days random times and hopefully you'll get the notification. You can also contact me on social media the let me know. I respond to a lot of the text messages. Yes, that's me and you are the one that paints the

COACH MIKE BAYER: [00:15:14] Picture for me around what is most helpful what's most entertaining and fun? You know, it doesn't need to be dark and Gloom it can also be fun and I even find there's a lot of fun even in the dark and Gloom so
